Statue of Liberty "in prison" for a year

Statue of Liberty in New York because of the renovation will be closed to visitors all year. The renovation of 93 meters high statuewill require 27.5 million dollars.



Interior Secretary in New York, Ken Salazar announced that the125-year-old statue will get new elevators and that during therenovation will be closed, but that island of freedom will be open for visitors.

The statue is visited annually by about 3.5 million people, but fewwho dare to climb the top. After the attacks on the United StatesSeptember 11, 2001 climbing was banned to visitors, but aftersome time was re-enabled.
